The Soul Stirrers were an American gospel music group, whose career spans over eighty years. [1] The group was a pioneer in the development of the quartet style of gospel, and a major influence on Soul, Doo wop, and the Motown sound, some of the secular music that owed much to gospel.

Member of The Soul Stirrers Rufus was the son of Dillard Crume Sr and Lonia Courtland Crume. He was a member of The Soul Stirrers Gospel Singers of Chicago, Illinois. The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2000.
