Sallie Martin (November 20, 1895 – June 18, 1988) was an American gospel singer referred to as the "Mother of Gospel" [1] for her efforts to popularize the songs of Thomas A. Dorsey and her influence on other artists.

Early Life/Career. Arranger and gospel singer, Sallie Martin was born in Pittsfield,Georgia. Mrs.Martin started singing in her church in her early twenties. Soon Sallie heard about the king of gospel, Thomas Dorsey from a friend of hers. Martin Auditioned for Dorsey later and had a little of a struggle.
