Salvador Moncada is a renowned pharmacologist and medical scientist who discovered prostacyclin, nitric oxide and their roles in vascular biology and inflammation. He also developed drugs to treat various conditions and received many scientific honours and awards.

Salvador Moncada, MD, obtained his PhD in the early 1970s at the Royal College of Surgeons in London, where he contributed to the discovery that aspirin-like drugs inhibit prostaglandin biosynthesis, thus accounting for their analgesic, anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory actions.
Dr Salvador Moncada is professor and head of the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research at University College London. His work on prostacyclin and nitric oxide have contributed greatly to cardiology, and made him one of the most cited scientists in the world. He talks to Emma Baines, MSc.
