Samuel Wanamaker, CBE, (born Wattenmacker; June 14, 1919 – December 18, 1993) was an American actor and director who moved to the United Kingdom after becoming fearful of being blacklisted in Hollywood due to his communist views in the 1950s.
Sam Wanamaker was a versatile and influential actor and director, known for his roles in Superman IV, Holocaust, and The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. He was also a key figure in the rebuilding of the Globe Theatre in London, where he directed many Shakespeare productions.

The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is a candlelit venue modelled on the early modern indoor playhouses of Shakespeare's London. It hosts plays, concerts, workshops and events throughout the year, and is named after the founder of Shakespeare's Globe.
