    Samuel Dickstein was a great Polish scientist - mathematician, pedagogue, historian of natural sciences, organizer of the Polish scientific life, propagator of mathematics. His childhood and the greater part of his adult life took place during a very difficult period in Poland, when the country was not independent and had been divided up between Austria, Prussia and Russia (1975-1918).
