Samuel Ealy Johnson Sr. (November 12, 1838 – February 25, 1915) was an American politician, businessman, farmer, rancher, and namesake of Johnson City, Texas. He was the grandfather of U.S. president Lyndon B. Johnson.

Samuel Ealy Johnson, Sr., cattleman, soldier, and grandfather of Lyndon Baines Johnson, the tenth child of Jesse and Lucy Webb (Barnett) Johnson, was born in Alabama on November 12, 1838. The family moved to Georgia and in 1846 to Lockhart, Texas.
Sam Ealy Johnson war das fünfte Kind seines gleichnamigen Vaters Sam Ealy Johnson, Sr. und wurde 1877 in Texas geboren. Er wuchs in einfachen Verhältnissen auf, wobei er jedoch bereits im jungen Alter als intelligent galt.
19. Dez. 2017 · In the late 1850s, Samuel Ealy Johnson Sr., Lyndon's grandfather, settled with his brother Tom in a one-room log cabin on 320 acres. It later became headquarters for the largest cattle driving operation in seven counties. After serving in the Civil War, Sam married Eliza Bunton of Caldwell County.
Because of his love for this land, respect for his pioneer ancestors, and his devotion to both, Lyndon Johnson has been called the "last of the frontier presidents." Confederate veteran Samuel Ealy Johnson, Sr., and his wife Eliza Bunton Johnson—Lyndon Johnson's grandparents—settled here in 1867.
