Location. San Gorgonio is located 82 miles east of Los Angeles, just south of Big Bear. From the 10 freeway (coming east or west), you’ll take Highway 38 through Forest Falls to get to the trailhead. With generally sunny weather, year-round snow-free trails, and easy access to peaks up to 11,000 feet, Southern California’s mountains are some of the most underrated hikes in the U.S.
Three-tenths mile further on is Mineshaft Saddle (9,960′), from which the hiker may choose to climb to the summit of San Gorgonio Mountain (11,499′). The 4.5 mile Sky High Trail from Mineshaft Saddle to the peak is occasionally steep, often rocky, and usually snow-covered in the early Fall, Winter, and late Spring.

It is in the San Bernardino Mountains, 27 miles (43 km) east of the city of San Bernardino and 12 miles (19 km) north-northeast of San Gorgonio Pass.
