Kloster Sanahin ist ein Kloster der Armenischen Apostolischen Kirche in der Nähe des gleichnamigen Ortes in der Provinz Lori im Norden von Armenien, das 966 gegründet wurde. Ebenso wie das in Sichtweite knapp vier Kilometer nordöstlich gelegene Kloster Haghpat wird es seit 1996 als UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe gelistet. [1]
Geografie. Sanahin liegt auf einem Plateau in Sichtweite von Haghpat, von dem es durch eine tiefe Schlucht getrennt ist, die ein kleiner Zufluss des Debed gegraben hat. Der Name Sanahin bedeutet im Armenischen wörtlich „Dieses ist älter als jedes“, und dokumentiert den Anspruch, das Kloster sei älter als das in Haghpat.
Klöster Haghpat und Sanahin ist eine von der UNESCO gelistete Stätte des Weltkulturerbes in Armenien. Die Welterbestätte umfasst das Kloster Haghpat und das Kloster Sanahin, zwei Klosterkomplexe der Armenischen Apostolischen Kirche, deren älteste Bauteile aus dem 10.
