Synopsis. In the 1950's, young Carrie Staley witnesses a murder while riding on a bus in Brooklyn, New York. Her father sends her to spend the summer with his relatives in Missouri. Landy, Bea, and Lucy Bretthorst welcome her warmly. She and Lucy are the same age and quickly become friends.
