  3. With a history of over 250 years, the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts is one of the oldest training institutions for fine arts in Europe. It was founded by the Wettins as the “Haupt-Kunst-Akademie” (Main Art Academy) in 1764.

  4. It was founded as the Königlich-Sächsische Kunstgewerbeschule (Royal Saxon School of Applied Arts). It became the Akademie für Kunstgewerbe (State Academy of Applied Arts) in 1921, and merged with the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts in 1950 to become the present day Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden.   5. Locations. The university is located at three places. The studios and workshops of Faculty I, Fine Arts, are spread over the locations Brühlsche Terrasse and Pfotenhauerstraße. The Brühlsche Terrasse building also houses the Oktogon's exhibition rooms, the academys archive, as well as the anatomical collection.

  6. 7. Aug. 2020 · It was built between 1891 an 1894 on the Brühl Terrace in the style of the Neo-Renaissance. With its glass dome – nicknamed the "lemon squeezer" on account of its form – the building is a prominent feature on Dresdens skyline. © Martin Dietrich.   7. The Dresden School of Applied Arts was founded in October 1875 under the name "Royal Saxon School of Applied Arts" and developed into one of the most important German training centers for applied arts around the turn of the century .
