Jan. 2021 · Much of the last third of Boult’s life was spent in association with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) and that orchestra has a five-disc compilation of recordings (out late last year) to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of Boult’s appointment as the ensemble’s chief conductor in 1950.
From his tenure as Principal Conductor (1950-57) to his retirement in 1978, this five-disc boxed set celebrates the long association between distinguished conductor Sir Adrian Boult and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
4. Apr. 2024 · From 1950 to 1957 he was principal conductor of the London Philharmonic. A nominal retirement followed, marked by another season (1959–60) at Birmingham and numerous guest appearances until he retired in 1981. Boult’s conducting style was economic, with little use of the left hand.

Retiring from the BBC, in 1950, with more than 1,500 broadcasts under his belt, Boult was conductor-in-chief of the London Philharmonic Orchestra until 1957 and its president from 1965.
