The Miracles (also known as Smokey Robinson and the Miracles from 1965 to 1972) were an American vocal group that was the first successful recording act for Berry Gordy's Motown Records, and one of the most important and most influential groups in the history of pop, soul, R&B and rock and roll music.

Ab 1965 nannte sich die Gruppe „Smokey Robinson & the Miracles“. Zu ihren größten Hits dieser Periode zählen I Second That Emotion (1967) und The Tears of a Clown (1970). 1972 verließ Robinson die Miracles, um eine Solokarriere zu beginnen. Er wurde durch den 20-jährigen Billy Griffin ersetzt.

Leben. Smokey Robinson (2006) Ende der 1950er Jahre traf Robinson in Detroit auf Berry Gordy, den Gründer des Motown-Labels, und er wurde mit seiner Band The Miracles der erste Hitlieferant für das junge Label. Der erste amerikaweite Hiterfolg war Shop Around aus dem Jahre 1960.
In late 1965 Berry Gordy decided to adjust the group's name and they were billed thereafter as Smokey Robinson & The Miracles although it was still one group, until Smokey left the group in July 1972 (although the final Smokey Robinson & The Miracles single was not released until November).
