David „Clem“ Clempson von Colosseum ersetzte Peter Frampton und der Sound von Humble Pie wurde härter. Das erste in dieser Besetzung eingespielte Album Smokin wurde zugleich ihr erfolgreichstes. Es hielt sich nicht zuletzt deshalb wochenlang in den LP-Hitlisten, weil die Band unermüdlich auf Tournee war.

After the success of Smokin', the band's record label A&M released Humble Pie's first two Immediate albums as one double album titled Lost and Found. The marketing ploy was a success and the album charted at No. 37 on the Billboard 200 .
