"I Got You Babe" is a song performed by American pop and entertainment duo Sonny & Cher and written by Sonny Bono. It was the first single taken from their debut studio album, Look at Us (1965). In August 1965, the single spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States [3] where it sold more than one million copies and was certified Gold .
Sonny Bono starb 1998 an den Folgen eines Skiunfalls. Seine Witwe Mary nahm seinen Platz im Kongress ein und übte das Mandat bis 2013 aus. Bono wurde in Cathedral City bestattet, wo wenig später auch Frank Sinatra seine letzte Ruhe fand. Dort hielt auch Cher eine Trauerrede. Auf seinem Grabstein ist zu lesen: „AND THE BEAT GOES ON“.

Cher didn't like it at first. She recalled to Billboard magazine: "Sonny woke me up in the middle of the night to come in where the piano was, in the living room, and sing it. And I didn't like it and just said, 'OK, I'll sing it and then I'm going back to bed.'" Sonny changed the key in the bridge to fit her voice and she loved it.
