South of Suez is a 1940 American drama film directed by Lewis Seiler and starring George Brent, Brenda Marshall and George Tobias. An alleged murder in an African diamond mine haunts a man many years later after he has returned to Britain. The film was made as a programmer by Warner Brothers.
Released in 1940, Brent plays John Gamble, who is the foreman of a diamond mine owner, Eli Snedeker (Tobias), in Africa. Gamble is soon an ex-foreman, as he doesn't like Snedeker's sleazy practices. Snedeker attempts to cheat Roger Smythe (Mander) out of his diamond claim, which thus far hasn't yielded anything.
Synopsis. Eli Snedeker, an avaricious and murderous mine owner in Africa, is insanely jealous of his wife Delia, a gold digger. Angered when Eli's mining engineer, John Gamble, spurns her advances, Delia spitefully accuses John of making a pass at her, and Eli fires him.
