In the spring of 2013, a group of inspired Waterbury educators and citizens applied to the State of Connecticut for a public charter school that would serve Waterbury’s children in grades pre-K through 8. Their petition was successful, and Brass City Charter School (BCCS) opened its doors to 114 students in grades Pre-K through 1st that fall in the former St. Margaret’s School building.

This was where “fashionable” girls went to school. This school was located on the corner of Cooke and Grover streets. In 1972, St. Margaret’s merged with the McTernan School for Boys (founded in 1912) becoming St. Margaret's-McTernan School. It was later renamed Chase Collegiate School. The 47-acre campus is located at 565 Chase Parkway.
