Staffan de Mistura is the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Western Sahara since October 2021. He has a long career in diplomacy and political affairs, including as Special Envoy for Syria and for Afghanistan.
Staffan de Mistura is the UN envoy appointed by the Secretary-General to advance the political process for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara. He works with the parties and the Security Council to find a just and lasting solution to the conflict, while MINURSO monitors the situation on the ground.
