Palo Alto WAS once a college town. In the 80s, a large number of Stanford Students lived off campus in shared rentals so Stanford students had a much stronger connection to the city. Now that undergrads all live on campus, it is MUCH less of a college town than it used to be. Berkeley absolutely is, Palo Alto is not.
