Staunton Military Academy was a private all-male military school located in Staunton, Virginia. Founded in 1884, the academy closed in 1976.
Established in 1884 in Staunton, VA, by Captain William H. Kable, Staunton Military Academy (SMA) served the young men of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the world for nearly 100 years. From its humble beginning with 75 cadets, enrollment grew to almost 700 in the early 1960s.
This website presents the detailed findings and work of the Staunton Military Academy History Project. The Staunton Military Academy, founded in 1884 by William H. Kable, closed its doors in Staunton, VA, in 1976 and closed for the final time in Hampton, VA, in 1978.
The faculty and staff of the Staunton Military Academy brought meaning to the buildings and the students that comprised the Corps of Cadets.
There was no yearbook published for the final session in Staunton, 1976, nor was one published for 1977-1978 school session held in Hampton, VA. Presented below are the 70 yearbooks that were published by the cadets.
27. Juli 2001 · SMA-VWIL Museum. The Staunton Military Academy (SMA) Alumni Foundation – Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) Museum is a joint endeavor between the two organizations. The mission of the museum is to preserve the past (SMA Legacy) while challenging the future (VWIL Program).
