Susanna Hall. Susanna Hall ( née Shakespeare; baptized 26 May 1583 – 11 July 1649) was the oldest daughter of William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway. She was the older sister of twins Judith and Hamnet Shakespeare. Susanna married the physician John Hall in 1607.
Susanna died on 11 July 1649 aged 66 and was buried beside her husband in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon. Her epitaph reads; “Witty above her sex, but that’s not all, Wise to salvation was good Mistris Hall, Something in Shakespeare was in that, but this. Wholy of him with whom she’s now in bliss. Susanna’s marriage to John Hall likely pleased Shakespeare tremendously, for Shakespeare appointed John and Susanna executors of his will. Susanna moved into Hall’s Croft – John Hall’s family home after the wedding, and on 21 February 1608 gave birth to William Shakespeare’s first grandchild, a baby girl named Elizabeth Hall.
Susanna Hall married John Hall, a respected physician, on June 5, 1607, in ‘Holy Trinity Church.’ John Hall practiced medicine in Stratford-upon-Avon, where he was the only physician at that time. Certain evidence indicates that Susanna's father settled a substantial dowry of 105 acres of land in Old Stratford at the time of her wedding.
