16. März 2010 · Sylvia Shemwell was a gospel and soul singer who worked with Elvis Presley and other greats. She died on February 13, 2010 after a stroke in 2001. She was known for her voice and her jazz trio. She was also the sister of Judy Clay, a gospel singer.
At that time, Sylvia Shemwell (sister of Judy Clay) replaced Troy, while Cissy Houston took over from Dionne, with Dee Dee Warwick as the group's official leader. The group sang backup for many stars, including Solomon Burke , Aretha Franklin , Wilson Pickett , and Esther Phillips .

Sylvia Shemwell. (b. June 30 th,1941). Vocalist in American R&B group, The Sweet Inspirations, founded by Cissy Houston.Sylvia was also the sister of Gospel and soul singer Judy Clay. Shemwell began singing at the young age of five years old, and by the time she had turned 14 years old, she’d won a contest for the Apollo Amateur Hour.
In 1967 Cissy Houston, Myrna Smith, Estelle Brown & Sylvia Shemwell were offered their own recording contract at Atlantic Records where they ultimately released five albums and numerous singles, leading off with their 1968 chart topper, “SWEET INSPIRATION” which reached #5 on the R&B chart and #18 on the Pop chart.
