The Buddy Holly Story is the first posthumously released compilation album by Buddy Holly and the Crickets. The album was released on February 28, 1959 by Coral Records less than a month after Holly's death.

The Crickets were an American rock and roll band from Lubbock, Texas, formed by singer-songwriter Buddy Holly in January 1957. Their first hit record, " That'll Be the Day ", released in May 1957, peaked at number three on the Billboard Top 100 chart on September 16, 1957.

Nachdem Buddy Holly 1956 vom Talentsucher Jim Denny entdeckt worden war, erlangte er 1957 mit den Eigenkompositionen That'll Be the Day und Peggy Sue weltweite Berühmtheit. Die Begleitband hieß zunächst The Two-Tunes , wurde aber bald in The Crickets umbenannt.

Juli 2020 · Lubbock now boasts the Buddy Holly Center ("Where art and music collide," in an interesting choice of words), the Buddy and Maria Elena Holly Plaza, and Crickets Avenue, per True West Magazine. A musical celebrates his life and music, and Gary Busey was nominated for an academy award for his performance in The Buddy Holly Story in 1978.
Plot. In 1956, Buddy Holly and his friends, drummer Jesse Charles and bass player Ray Bob Simmons, regularly performed at a local roller rink in Lubbock, Texas, as The Crickets. A local radio station broadcasts the show.
