The Free Design was a Delevan, New York –based vocal group, whose music can be described as sunshine pop and baroque pop. The Free Design was a Delevan, New York-based vocal group playing jazzy pop music. Their music can be described as sunshine pop and baroque pop. The members were all members of the Dedrick family: Chris Dedrick (who wrote most of the songs), sister Sandy Dedrick, and brother Bruce Dedrick were the original lineup.
Hailing from New York, The Free Design were a late ’60s/early ’70s family pop group, releasing eight brilliant albums and influencing countless musicians (Beck, Belle & Sebastian, Cornelius, and Stereolab, to name a few).
The Free Design waren eine US-amerikanische Popgruppe aus Delevan, New York, die in den 1960er- und 1970er-Jahren durch jazzigen Sunshine Pop (auch Barock-Pop) und Easy Listening mit starken Vocal-Anteil bekannt wurden.
Due to their own growing families and other circumstances, The Free Design broke up. Chris, Ellen, and Sandy moved to Toronto, Canada shortly thereafter. They continued to sing together in a 10-voice vocal ensemble called the Star-Scape Singers and toured extensively in Eastern and Western Europe.
