The Gap Band II is the fourth studio album by the Gap Band, released in 1979 on Mercury Records. It is their second major label release, and produced by Lonnie Simmons. Reception. The album reached No. 3 on the Black Albums chart and No. 42 on the Pop Albums chart.

Das Ende desselben Jahres erschienene Album The Gap Band II stieg Anfang 1980 auf Platz 42 der Billboard 200 und auf Platz drei der R&B-Charts. Daraufhin wurde die Platte mit einer Goldenen Schallplatte ausgezeichnet. Die erste Auskopplung, Steppin’ (Out), belegte Platz 10 der R&B-Charts.
On their first album with Simmons, The Gap Band, they found chart success with songs such as "I'm in Love" and "Shake"; the latter became a Top 10 R&B hit in 1979. Later that year, the group released "I Don't Believe You Want to Get Up and Dance (Oops!)" on their album The Gap Band II.
