  1. The Paul Gauguin Museum (French: Musée Paul Gauguin) is a Japanese-styled art museum dedicated to the life and works of Paul Gauguin in Tahiti, French Polynesia. The Museum is closed for renovations - but the sister museum in Hiva Oa is open. The museum is located at PK 51, 2 Papeari, Tahiti, directly across from the Botanical Gardens.

After starting out as a painter within the Impressionist movement, Paul Gauguin shifted towards Synthetism and Symbolism, making him one of the most influential artists of the late nineteenth century.

Paul Gauguin styled himself and his art as “savage.” Although he began his artistic career with the Impressionists in Paris, during the late 1880s he fled farther and farther from urban civilization in search of an edenic paradise where he could create pure, “primitive” art.

  6. The Paul Gauguin Cultural Center (French: Le Centre Culturel Paul Gauguin) was finished in 2003, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the death of Paul Gauguin, in Atuona, on Hiva ʻOa, in the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia).

  7. Gare maritime, 2 étage BP 65. Built in 1964, by Father Patrick O'Reilly with the participation of the Singer-Polignac Foundation, the Gauguin museum is situated close to Mataiea on the west coast of Tahiti Nui. It was here that famoius artist lived during his first stay in Polynesia in 1891.
