The Halifax Three (or the Halifax III), originally the Colonials, was a folk music band in Canada in the 1960s. The band performed in Toronto and Montreal before becoming part of the New York folk scene and recording an album.

The group, with the addition of Toronto born Zal Yanovsky, toured with The Journeymen and played Carnegie Hall in New York City.

By 1962 they’d established themselves as one of the most proficient and musically talented folk trios on the east coast, spinning traditional tunes with a Maritime flavour.

The Halifax Three – Bio. The Halifax Three cut two albums for Epic Records during 1963, and the line-up consisted of Dennis “Denny” Doherty [born November 29th 1941], Patrick LaCroix and Richard Byrne. They met, and first sang together, at a 1960 New Year’s Party in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
