Raised by a strict mother, Helène Jégado thinks she is the incarnation of the Ankou, a supernatural being and the most feared worker of death in Brittany at the beginning of the 19th century. Her mission is to kill all those who stand in her way. She accomplishes her work with frightening determination and calmness.
Hélène Jégado (1803 - 1852) was probably one of the first, if not the very first, female serial killer in modern history. Known as Fleur de Tonnerrre she is believed to have poisoned as many as 36 people with arsenic over 18 years, hence the film's English title The Poisoning Angel.
A young French girl grows up feeling detached from the 19th-century world around her and becomes a notorious serial killer.

Set in 9th century rural Brittany, an impoverished peasant girl's life takes a disturbing turn for the violence. Convinced she must serve Ankou, the spirit of death in local mythology, Helene poisons and murders her mother.
