The Putney School is a co-educational boarding school founded in 1935 by Carmelita Hinton, a progressive education pioneer. Students learn by doing, run the community, and pursue their own passions in an academically rigorous and culturally informal environment.
The Putney Core. The Putney School has been on the leading edge of progressive education for more than 80 years. It’s where we like to be. Progressive education is designed to create engaged citizens for a democratic society, and we all feel the urgency of that project.
The Putney School is a co-ed, non-denominational, college-preparatory school that offers experiential and project-based learning, a unique work program, and a variety of arts and sports activities. Founded in 1935, it has a low student-teacher ratio, a diverse student body, and a strong record of college matriculation.
