The Thirteenth Chair is a 1929 American mystery film directed by Tod Browning. The picture is based on a 1916 play of the same name by Bayard Veiller. It stars Conrad Nagel, Leila Hyams and Margaret Wycherly. The film was one of many released in both sound and silent versions.

The Thirteenth Chair is a 1937 American mystery film directed by George B. Seitz and starring Dame May Whitty, Lewis Stone, Madge Evans, and Elissa Landi. It is based on the 1916 stage play of the same title by Bayard Veiller. This was the third film adaptation of the play.
A medium (Margaret Wycherly) holds a seance to clear her daughter (Leila Hyams) of murder in colonial India.

Overview. Although his murdered friend was by all accounts a scoundrel, Edward Wales is determined to trap his killer by staging a seance using a famous medium. Many of the 13 seance participants had a reason and a means to kill, and one of them uses the cover of darkness to kill again.
The Thirteenth Chair (1929) is essentially a murder mystery with a slight horror element. The friend of the man who is murdered, holds a seance in order to reveal who the murderer is. Bela Lugosi plays the detective assigned to the case.
