Following his father's death in 1602 he became 3rd Baron de la Warr, though he had some difficulty gaining full possession of his inheritance. He served as a Privy Councillor to both Elizabeth I and James I.

10. Juni 2018 · As was the custom in England, only the most important people were buried in a church chancery. It is speculated that the remains of Lord Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, may have been found. DNA analysis may soon confirm this suspicion.
