Tommy Fairchild was a singer and musician in Southern Gospel for many years. He briefly sang baritone for the Florida Boys in 1957. He was also the pianist for the Oak Ridge Boys and the Blackwood Brothers.
The 1970s and 1980s lineup with Pat Hoffmaster, Jimmy Blackwood, Cecil Blackwood, Ken Turner and Tommy Fairchild had the Blackwood Brothers' biggest hit with "Learning To Lean". Thomas Duane Fairchild is a pianist and singer who has won 10 Grammy awards and played with various gospel groups. He was born in Florida in 1936 and married Judith Ann in 1980.
With the addition of tenor Willie Wynn, bass Herman Harper, and pianist Tommy Fairchild, they became one of the most popular quartets of the early 1960s. By this time, the group was known and marketed as the Oak Ridge Boys, so Fowler started a fourth group and again named it the Oak Ridge Quartet.
