Octavio Antonio Fernández Castro (June 30, 1962 – February 16, 2020), better known as Tony Fernández, was a Dominican baseball player who played as a shortstop in Major League Baseball (MLB) for seven teams from 1983 to 2001, most notably the Toronto Blue Jays.

Tony Fernandez, the All-Star shortstop and 1993 World Series champion known for his defensive brilliance and one-of-a-kind throws across the diamond, has died at 57 after suffering a stroke while battling kidney issues. He played for the Blue Jays over 12 seasons and was enshrined on the Level of Excellence.

He was first hospitalized with polycystic kidney disease in 2017 and battled kidney problems for several years. He was a five-time all-star and the franchise's all-time leader in games played, hits and triples.
