U.D.O. is a German heavy metal band founded by lead vocalist Udo Dirkschneider in 1987. History. Following Dirkschneider's departure from Accept in 1987, he formed his own band called U.D.O. The first line-up consisted of guitarists Mathias Dieth and Peter Szigeti, bassist Frank Rittel and drummer Thomas Franke.

Udo Dirkschneider (* 6. April 1952 in Wuppertal) ist ein deutscher Heavy-Metal -Musiker und Gründungsmitglied sowie ehemaliger Sänger von Accept. Nach seinem zunächst unfreiwilligen Ausstieg bei Accept 1987 gründete er die Band U.D.O. Diese Band pausierte zwischenzeitlich, nachdem Dirkschneider zu Accept zurückgekehrt war.
