Degrees & Programs. Founded in 1884, the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music prepares students for successful careers in the 21st century. We are unique among our peers in the sheer diversity of music that is taught, all at the highest levels.
The Thornton School is noted for blending the rigors of a traditional conservatory-style education with a forward-looking approach to training the next generation of musicians. Highly regarded internationally, the school is widely ranked as one of the top 10 schools of music in the United States.
The only programs with different application deadlines are “Arts Leadership” and “Popular Music Teaching and Learning” (May 1 final application deadline) and all Thornton minors (October 1, 2023 and March 1, 2024). Application deadlines for other processes are noted below.
