Vasil Levski National Stadium is the venue where all matches between Sofia teams for the Republican championships, the cups of Bulgaria and the official matches of the national football team are held. The facility was opened for the Republican and International Athletics Championships.

Vasil Levski National Stadium got built in the 1950s to provide the city of Sofia with a large football venue. Until then, the national team had played their matches at a small ground of 10,000 spectators that had stood roughly at the same site.
Description. Vasil Levski National Stadium is the only one of its kind in Bulgaria and has a four-star category according to UEFA and FIFA standards for a stadium capacity of this rank. It hosts all matches between the Sofia teams for the national championships, the cups of Bulgaria and the official meetings of the national football team.
Vasil Levski National Stadium was officially opened in 1953, extended in 1966 and renovated in 2002. Prior to their demolition by the Communist authorities during the 1940s and 50s, two other stadiums stood on the ground where the current national stadium lies.
