The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center. Founded in 1864 as the Vassar College Art gallery, the Loeb was the first art museum to be part of a college’s original plan. Today it is home to 21,000 works including by Rembrandt, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Francis Bacon.
Civic Engagement. The Vassar community engages with Poughkeepsie and the wider Hudson River Valley region on many levels. Students learn from partners through community-based learning assignments and also volunteer in the community in a wide variety of settings. Vassar welcomes our neighbors to campus events, facilities, and our nature preserve.

Toured the Vassar College Campus which included the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, the Chapel, and the Thompson Memorial Library. The massive stained-glass window that dominates the library’s interior space depicts Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia, the first woman to receive a doctorate in 1678 from the University of Padua in Italy.
