18. Feb. 2024 · After the band’s split, he released a few solo efforts, including 1971’s Whatcha Gonna Do and 1974’s Waiting for a Song, which featured Michelle Phillips and Cass Elliot on backing vocals. It’s believed to be the latter’s final recording sessions before her untimely death.
Featuring both Michelle Phillips and Cass Elliot on background vocals, the recordings would be Elliot's last, as she died of heart failure in her sleep on July 29, 1974, after a sold-out run in London a few months after the record was finished. Doherty was stunned and saddened and attended the funeral several days later in early August, along with John and Michelle Phillips.
