The Tokens were heavily influenced by the doo-wop sound that emerged in the 1950s. They listened to groups like The Platters and The Drifters and used that style as a jumping-off point for their own music. They also experimented with different vocal techniques and arrangements until they found the sound that they felt best showcased their talents.
