The Tokens were an American doo-wop band and record production company group from Brooklyn, New York City. The group has had four top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 , all in the 1960s, their biggest being the chart-topping 1961 hit single " The Lion Sleeps Tonight ".
The Tokens were heavily influenced by the doo-wop sound that emerged in the 1950s. They listened to groups like The Platters and The Drifters and used that style as a jumping-off point for their own music. They also experimented with different vocal techniques and arrangements until they found the sound that they felt best showcased their talents.
