Whiskeytown was an American alternative country band formed in 1994 from Raleigh, North Carolina. Fronted by Ryan Adams, the group included members Caitlin Cary, Phil Wandscher, Eric "Skillet" Gilmore, and Mike Daly. They disbanded in 2000 with Adams leaving to pursue his solo career.

Feb. 2022 · The Wintu and their indigenous ancestors inhabited the area now known as Whiskeytown National Recreation Area for centuries and probably knew about gold deposits, but in the late 1840s and early 1850s, a gold rush comprised mostly of white miners, primarily from the eastern U.S. and Europe, ensued.

Ryan Adams and Caitlin Cary have since gone on to estimable solo careers, but for a brief flicker in the mid-90s the duo managed to work together as Whiskeytown, an alt-country band with roots in Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, and the Replacements.
