Whiskeytown was an American alternative country band formed in 1994 from Raleigh, North Carolina. Fronted by Ryan Adams, the group included members Caitlin Cary, Phil Wandscher, Eric "Skillet" Gilmore, and Mike Daly. They disbanded in 2000 with Adams leaving to pursue his solo career.

Feb. 2022 · The Wintu and their indigenous ancestors inhabited the area now known as Whiskeytown National Recreation Area for centuries and probably knew about gold deposits, but in the late 1840s and early 1850s, a gold rush comprised mostly of white miners, primarily from the eastern U.S. and Europe, ensued.
Located in northern California, near the city of Redding, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area was established on November 8, 1965. The park gets its name from a gold rush–era camp town that is now submerged in Whiskeytown Lake, a 3,200-acre reservoir formed by Whiskeytown Dam on Clear Creek, which is the center of the area.
