Whistling in the Dark (1941) was the first feature film to star comedian Red Skelton in the lead, and was a surprise hit for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; its success meant that the vaudeville and radio comic would enjoy a healthy movie career throughout the 1940s and into the 1950s as well.

Overview. The operators of 'Silver Haven', a cultish group bilking gullible rich people out of money, is set to inherit a large sum after the deceased woman's heir also dies. Synopsis by Hal Erickson. Though based on a stage play by Laurence Gross and Edward Childs Carpenter (previously filmed as an Ernest Truex vehicle in 1933), MGM's Whistling in the Dark was clearly inspired by the success of Paramount's Bob Hope comedy-mystery The Ghost Breakers.
