Wikimedia Commons ist mit mehr als 100 Millionen Mediendateien eine der größten freien Mediensammlungen weltweit. 83,2 % der Dateien sind Bilder im JPG-Format. Ein Jahr nach der Gründung hielt sie über 250.000 Mediendaten bereit. Das Gesamtvolumen der Sammlung beträgt im August 2023 über 462 Terabyte, davon 358 Terabyte Bilder.
