11. Feb. 2022 · Dr. Shine was a very influential former Great Neck Public Schools Superintendent whose work still has a lasting impact today. When the school was created in 1958, it was simply called Great Neck South High School.

3. Feb. 2022 · Dr. William A. Shine, the namesake of Great Neck South High School, died on Jan. 28 at 93. He was the second-longest serving superintendent in GNPS history and a former Marine Corps officer. He served as superintendent from 1982 to 2004 and was known for his integrity, intellect and compassion.
