He was a principal master of the Palladian architectural style in England and a pioneer in the creation of the “informal” English garden .

William Kent (1685 – 1748) was the leading architect and designer of early Georgian Britain. He introduced the Palladian style of architecture into England and originated the 'natural' style of gardening known as the English landscape garden. He also designed interiors, furniture, metalwork, book illustration, theatrical design and costume for the new Hanoverian monarchy and its aristocrats.
William Kent was a royal artist, architect and designer to Georgian kings. He rose from humble origins as a sign painter and became one of the most successful and fashionable designers of the period. He decorated the state apartments at Kensington Palace with his Italianate style, creating illusions of space and detail. He also designed the King's Staircase, the Queen's Staircase and the Cumberland Art Gallery at Hampton Court Palace.
