William Edward Phipps (February 4, 1922 – June 1, 2018) was an American actor and producer, sometimes credited simply as William Phipps, known for his roles in films and on television.

He was 96. He was born in Vincennes, Ind., and served in the Navy during World War II. He also appeared in various TV shows and films, including “Galileo,” “Five,” “The Snow Creature,” and “Cat-Women of the Moon.”

Der aus ärmlichen Verhältnissen stammende Phips wurde 1686 schlagartig reich und berühmt, als er das Gold einer vor Hispaniola gesunkenen spanischen Galeone barg; für diesen Fund wurde er zudem vom englischen König im Juni 1687 als Knight Bachelor geadelt und zum ranghöchsten Sheriff des neugebildeten Dominion of New England ernannt.
