Geoffrey Downes (born 25 August 1952) is an English keyboardist who gained fame as a member of the new wave group the Buggles with Trevor Horn, the progressive rock band Yes, and the supergroup Asia. Born in Stockport , Downes moved to London to pursue a music career.

Geoffrey Downes – The World Service. Geoff Downes, widely known as the keyboard player from Asia, also present on one Yes album ( Drama ), occasionally gives us an instrumental album. Downes is not known for his keyboard heroics, but rather as keyboard player who does the job and does it well.
With no supporting tour for ARENA and a failed attempt to reunite the original band for a tour, Geoff placed Asia on the shelf temporarily and released his new solo album, THE WORLD SERVICE in 1999. Based on his early encounters with the BBC growing up in Manchester, the concept album explored the global sounds that emanated from the family radio.
The second best New Dance Orchestra album is 1999's The World Service, likewise an all-instrumental work. 1992's Vox Humana was more of a song-based album with various guests singing lead on different tracks.
