Alcest ist eine im Jahr 2000 gegründete, französische Band aus Avignon. Der Name Alcest leitet sich von Alceste ab, einer Figur aus Molières Stück Der Menschenfeind . Neige entschied sich für diesen Namen wegen seines „ätherischen“ Klangs und seiner Darstellung des Projektkonzepts; er entfernte das zweite „e“, um die Band vom Stück zu unterscheiden.
