The FAA instructors provided this education until 1977. Since then, it’s been provided through FAA approved industry courses, which allow flight instructors to renew their certificates through an official, streamlined process – the Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC).
With the responsibility of being a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) comes the renewal of your certificate every two years, and that can be accomplished by either meeting certain requirements as a current CFI, or by taking a flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC).
