Born to a mother from Ferentino, in the province of Frosinone, and a father from Vietri sul Mare, in the province of Salerno, Tajani attended the Liceo Torquato Tasso in Rome and graduated in law from the Sapienza University of Rome; he was a reserve officer of the Italian Air Force.

Die Familie lebte fünf Jahre in Frankreich, nachdem sein Vater dort an einen NATO-Standort abkommandiert worden war.

La sua famiglia d'origine è composta dalla madre, Augusta Nardi, insegnante e dal padre, Raffaele Tajani, ufficiale dell’Esercito di Vietri sul Mare, in provincia di Salerno. La madre lavorava a Ferentino, in provincia di Frosinone.
Mio padre era un ufficiale dell’esercito italiano e mia madre insegnava latino e greco. Quando mio padre fu nominato al comando della NATO, ci portò in Francia, dove abbiamo vissuto per cinque anni. In seguito, ho studiato all’Università La Sapienza di Roma, dove mi sono laureato in giurisprudenza.
